2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany

I know y'all Americans don't appreciate soccer as much as other sports, but hear me out.

This World Cup is something to behold. After only 2 reaired matches, i'm in. Never been a soccer fan in my life - as latin as i am - but this is addictive. The pace; the energy from the crowd and players; the personalities; the acting that takes place when someone vies for a call; the footwork artistry; the actual world aspect. I'm not a fan of any team sports, preferring the 1 on 1 mind game of tennis, yet soccer snagged me-- i finally get it.

So now there are 8 teams left, 6 of them being past champs. That means it's only gonna get better. Brasil's on top momentum-wise, with Portugal, France, Germany, Ukraine, Italy, Argentina, and England on their asses. From now on, it'll be pure bloodshed. France is gaining steam, but nobody is messing with Brasil.

They're on break for a couple days and return on Friday with Germany vs Argentina followed by Italy vs Ukraine. Catch it on Univision or ESPN, with replays on FoxSports or ESPN Classic later that night.

And yes, Beckham is my hottie to trottie.

I have not been following the World Cup but I have to agree. I saw my first soccer game in Washington, D.C. All I can remember is that those DC United fans are no joke! They were banging this huge bass drum (I think that is what it's called) and chanting. And that Freddie Adu is awesome.

All the players that were on the field were fantastic but when Freddie got on the field - it was magic. I might take time out to catch a FIFA game. I would definately like to see Beckham play since he is one of the most talked about soccer stars right now.

BTW, NY has a soccer team - Red Bull New York formerly MetroStars. (Apparently, Red Bull brought the team.) I saw them when they were still the MetroStars. The fans bring it and so do the players!

Soccer games are definately something to behold in person!

Well, BRA-zil (said like the announcer in Street Fighter II) could get taken down. It was a huge surprise to me that France knocked the undefeated Spain out, especially since they only had one win going into the match.

I've paid attention to World Cup since I was on summer break from college (ahem) eight years ago. A friend and I pretty much did nothing else but sit and watch World Cup, veg out, and make Jello-balloons for an entire summer. What makes it exciting for me is knowing that these teams are playing completely balls-out since a loss means you go home. Just look at the Portugal game. That was just CRAZY with Yellow Cards. Passion .. that's what it's all about.

Does Paypal support sports pools?

I grew up in Mexico City but for some reason I never caught the World Cup fever. This year, however, for some reason I started following it a bit. I think the performance of the teams on this World Cup must have been extraordinary compared to previous years, because more people are getting into it! Heck, I even bought the damn FIFA 2006 World Cup game on the DS to try to recreate some of the matches. Pathetic, I know...

What's pathetic is that you didn't catch Copa Mundial fever while you were in Mexico. For shame!

Hey man, i wanna buy FIFA now, too! I'm so into it. I don't know about the DS version, but i saw a vid of it last night before or after i posted this and it looked well enough. No wait, that was Winning Eleven, my bad. How is FIFA though? EA should thank their FIFA license for getting me interested in a sports game that aint tennis.

If you can keep me up to speed Mr I, that'd be nice. I only joined the fray after that Portugal game, so i know extremely little. "MANICHE! MANICHE! MANICHE!" That announcer had me dying. I don't even have a fave pick or anything, i'm just enjoying how much the teams are putting into it. I wish tennis was this high energy, formal-ass sport. And about that Spain v France match, i think France wanted it more, and their 2nd goal (it was 1-all right?) winded Spain. Spain became desperate after that. I haven't seen a Brasil match yet but i think they're the obvious superpower here.

I heard Michael Owens is a hawtie, also. That true? If so, then Go England!

Amazingly, the favorite teams have been eliminated!! Brasil is out, and so is Argentina and, of course, Mexico, a while ago... Sad, sad...

It's difficult to keep up with the results here, though... there isn't as much coverage as there should be!

I've heard rave reviews of Winning Eleven, by the way. Most critics say it is far better than EA's FIFA. Personally, I've only played the DS versions of FIFA, and I liked the first version better than the World Cup version. I don't think I'll get a console version, though... way too involved, it's like Madden, where you have to follow the career of a team through the whole World Cup.

By "here", do you mean Warc? I'm about to go on a posting frenzy covering both the Cup and Wimbledon (I just popped a double boner). Any help, appreciated.

Ohhhh, you mean this country. Yeah...
