Jeezum crow, that's nice! A co-worker and I have discussions and research sessions to figure out where certain phrases or words come from. He heard me say something about "welching on a bet" and claimed to have never heard the phrase before. After some speculation, he looked into it. Basically it's a slam against Welshmen.

yuppie = young urban professional + hippie (in reference of what yuppies used to be in the 60's!)
That's one word you get to know everything about when you live in Northern Chicago...
And downtown Manhattan.
